The area known as Five Islands is located on the northern shore of Minas Basin, just east of Parrsboro Nova Scotia.

Glooscap is one of the mythical deities of the Mik'maq First Nations tribe.
Enraged by his enemy the beaver, Glooscap threw giant handfuls of sod at it. Each of these sods is now one of the Five Islands islands in the Minas Basis.
